As a young girl I was always interested in art but there was little encouragement to take it further at school to forge a career, so as an adult, I ended up being a picture framer for 15 years, framing other people’s artwork. Fast forward to 2019, I started making handmade cards in my spare time to help me relax. People liked them, so I started selling them to friends and family and from there I opened up my Etsy shop, Penny Patch Designs. The last 6 years have been a whirlwind with nearly 4000 Etsy sales under my belt and I have loved every minute. I have broadened my product range and love making pebble pictures, which are hugely popular, and all of my products can be personalised, so they make fabulous individual gifts. I also make objet d’art made from scraps of wood, such as decorative key hooks and rustic wooden hanging fish, with the help of my husband, Mike 🥰. The main aim in my work is to use recycled materials wherever possible; where you see a lollipop stick…. I see a picket fence, you see a scrap of paper…. I see a painted card, you see an old floorboard…. I see a rustic fish. The amount of times I have rummaged through our kindling basket to salvage scraps of wood! This year has been busier than ever but I feel my biggest achievement of 2025 is being invited in to the beautiful Teme Valley Artisans shop in Tenbury Wells. This enables me to sell my products locally and be part of an amazing team of artisans all working together selling our handmade pieces in a ‘High Street’ setting and I am very excited for this new chapter ♥️.
